Hello Everyone

I am sharing a “Spool Brake” design for slowing down the donor spool. "Spool Brake" keeps the filament under tension so that it does not loosen during rewinding. If you notice that the filament is loose on the spool after rewinding, this project is for you. Particularly useful if you rewind the filament manually or with a cordless screwdriver and are unable to maintain constant speeds. The problem of loose filament also occurs if the donor spool is not wound correctly and is tangled. For the braking element, I used an anti-vibration mat with dimensions of 96.2 x 70 x 3.2 mm. If you do not have a piece of anti-vibration mat, you can also try to use thicker foam or some other stiffer material, such as structural cardboard. I also designed a braking lining with dimensions of 96.2 x 70 mm with different thicknesses such as 1.6mm, 2.2mm and 2.8mm which should be printed from TPU. I performed tests on TPU 40D material, which is a very soft filament, and the thickness of 2.2 mm worked for me. If you decide to print the braking element from TPU, you must select the appropriate parameters such as the thickness of the braking lining and filling, depending on the TPU filament you have.

UPDATE 04.02.2024 : 

• I tested a brake lining made of PETG. Therefore, I added additional thicknesses, such as 0.8mm and 1mm. Test which one will be better for you.
