Description

PDF
The BUFFER UNIT is a premium rewindable spool holder for the MMU3/MMU2. It's compact and easy to use, opposed to the official clunky setup for the MMU. Compatible with the Prusa MK4, MK3, CORE One, Original Prusa Enclosure and more.

This model provides basic STEP-files of the BUFFER UNIT to help you create custom setup for your printer. It does not contain the actual spool holders.

Custom printer setup

The BUFFER UNIT can be used with a ton of printer setups, you just need to connect the PTFE-tubes. You may however want to create custom brackets/mounts that fit your setup specifically, for example with different dry-boxes, shelves, enclosures, printers etc. The provided STEP-files helps you adapt the brackets/mounts to perfectly fit the BUFFER UNIT.

Tips For Designing Custom Setups

Files included

The STEP-files includes a basic “shell” of the buffer unit, as well as a part used as a templet for creating custom brackets. Additionally, PTFE-guides numbered 6-12 are also provided for those who run printers with more than 5 filaments.

Attachment

There are multiple ways of attaching the BUFFER UNIT, here's a rundown. Firstly, there is a slot at the front of the module. This slot can snap onto a specially designed part, which strongly holds the buffer unit in place. The part is provided with the STEP-files, allowing you to design a bracket around it.

Secondly, there are down-facing screw-holes on the R- & L-Shells. The holes have slots for M3 hex nuts, so these can easily be attached with screws from underneath. This is the same way the BUFFER UNIT is officially attached to the Original Prusa Enclosure

⚠ It's important to support the BUFFER UNIT under the whole bottom side. Supports only on the side of the BUFFER UNIT will cause it to sagg in the middle.

Guiding PTFE-tubes

There are clips and slots for routing the PTFE-tubes. The official way of routing the tubes are either out the back or to the sides. See assembly instructions for the MK4 and Original Prusa Enclosure for more details on the difference. Of course, you can decide how your setup should look like!
