I made a set of the awesome spinning tops from daveblueeyes67, on thingiverse here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3624448
These tops spin really well and we will have a lot of fun with them.
One of my family is mad about spinning tops so will be sure to love these when their birthday arrives - but is also likely to knock the ball bearings out of the bottom if they rattle around in a toy box. So I thought I'd make a storage box to hold them upright and keep the handles safe. My printer won't make a wider box so the launchers have to live across the top. The posts in each compartment hold the ball bearing just off the bottom of the box - hopefully they'll stay attached for a good long time.
I'm pretty new to OpenSCAD but produced the attached design. It's quite easy to modify the basic parameters to change the box a bit, but the default size is just right for four spinning tops. The .stl files will print a box with the four square compartments either with the longer side boxes (as in my pictures) or just the squares on their own.
I printed my box with PLA on a Prusa i3 MK3S, with no problems. It did take over 11 hours, though, much my longest print so far!
