I wanted to create an MMU3 Buffer mount to use with overhead spool management, which minimized both the modifications to any Prusa ecosystem and the number of filament path bends. I use it with the RepBox from RepKord, but you can swap in whatever overhead spool management system you would like.
This Mohawk Mount allows:
- No modification to the inside of the Prusa Enclosure; your accessories will rejoice!
- No modification to the buffer system beyond the “stand” mount.
- Full access to the top of the printer via the Hinged Lid mod by Prusa3D.
- Reduced lateral filament paths for lower friction in PTFE tubes.
- Only two printed parts!
Required Additional Hardware:
- 2x M3x6 screws for the front mount.
- 2x M3x8 screws for the rear mount.
Printing Guidance:
- Print each part as you would any structural Prusa part:
- PETG
- 0.2mm layer height
- Structural Preset with 25% infill
- mohawk-mount-back.stl can be printed without supports
- mohawk-mount-front.stl should be printed with supports on the buildplate only.
Assembly:
- Print both brackets out using the guidance above.
- Insert the stock M3nS square nuts into the rear mount per the standard Prusa instructions for the stock part.
- Replace the corresponding brackets on the MMU3 Buffer, making sure to face the front bracket with the four indented squares facing out, and the support bracket for the rear mount facing out as well (see photos).
- Just barely screw in the stock M3x30 screws to attach the mounts to the buffer. As with the stock parts, tightening these fully at this stage could warp the bracket.
- Remove any covers or nylon rivets in the Prusa Lid which currently occupy the mounting location.
- Place the MMU3 buffer at the mounting location and secure the mount by threading in the additional M3 screws mentioned above.
- M3x6 for the front mount.
- M3x8 for the rear mount.
- The mounts should be able to gently move as long as you didn't overtighten the screws in step 4.
- Once mounted, tighten the M3x30 screws from step 4 until they are snug, but not warping the buffer plates or mounts.
Additional Models to Complete the System:
This is a work in progress; please provide feedback and let's improve this design together to make a polished MMU3/Prusa Enclosure system!

The author remixed this model.
Differences of the remix compared to the original
- Modified front bracket to increase stability and allow for mounting on the top of the Prusa Enclosure
- Modified rear bracket for increased strength to avoid warping and to allow for mounting on the top of the Prusa Enclosure.
