This is a filament storage system based on OcieWard's (@ Thingiverse) Ocie's 21-Cup Filament Silos (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3138757). Which is a really well documented design for dry box filament storage using the clear version of the Rubbermaid 21 cup storage containers. This remix is designed for the milky plastic Rubbermaid 21 cup storage containers which have a nearly identical design aside from the lid, which does not have a window. I suspect that this will work with the clear Rubbermaid 21 cup storage containers as well since they are so similar.

I incorporated a few things of my own as well including the following:

Features:

  • A storage compartment for some silica gel or whatever :D
  • My "Improved" version of myFilament guide for dry box, with o-ring screw cover (https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/79654), which uses an O-ring to seal a ball though which the filament runs through. The idea is the ball allows for some variation in the angles the filament may go into the bowden tube when it rolls off the spool. There is also a cap which can seal with a 2nd O-ring and is used to seal the entire container when not in use.
  • The spool roller bogies use a ratcheting mechanism to adjust.
  • There is a opening which should be wide enough to accommodate many different enclosure filament pass through setups, including the one I use.

And finally, there is a latching base, which holds the container and is intended to be mounted in a fixed location such as a shelf or in my case on top of my printer enclosure.

I posted the assembly instructions and a BOM at my site:

There is also a blog post here which shows the progression of this design.

There is a center axis and roller combo spool holder remix which works with this design  posted here: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/79718-combo-spool-holder-for-the-latching-spool-holder-d )

Thanks for looking, and if you like this thing, please like it or download it (which helps to get me closer to my first free spool of Prusament).  Or you can check out my site, to see what other projects are in the works.

The STEP file is included for easy remixing.

If you find these models useful, please post a like or a comment with some pics of your prints.

You can find the other things I'm working on at my blog here.  You can also follow me here on Printables to see what new stuff I post.  Thanks for looking!

Parts are not oriented for printing. Please calibrate extruder steps and flow since some parts have a close fit. Here is a good video on how to do that (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzQjtWhg9VE&feature=youtu.be)

I used PETG and PLA for these parts. I recommend printing just one of the following to confirm fit before going ahead and printing multiple:
