This is the gantry and carriage design for the SolidCore CoreXY printer.
see Hackaday 3D Printer Project
The SolidCore Printer design currently uses a bowden tube setup to allow for higher acceleration but a direct drive extruder soon be added to allow for higher feedrate.
Although the design is uses all metal parts, the carriage and gantry are designed to be light weight and strong. We currently use c-shaped aluminum stock because it reduces machining time. The reduced machining time and minimized waste helps but it’s a compromise will most likely change soon as the y-axis linear rail will be reoriented into the a vertical position similar to the RailCore. The SolidCore uses this mechanical arrangement will so it's easier to adapt an E3D Toolchanger.
