Fits pretty good inside the "Yashee" brand cereal boxes from Amazon, however I'm not super happy with the spool rolling performance. I've noticed quite a bit of friction, probably not that much to cause major issues for day to day printing, but with more rough filaments it might be problematic. I think it's not a problem with this model by itself, but rather with the overall approach where the spool sits at the bottom of the box and rollers, rather than sits at the shaft put in the middle of the spool (like the linked model from "ktpanda"). I've also encountered a problem with spools compatibility. Prusament spools were fine, but a bit narrower spool from Fiberlogy was nearly touching the bearings. Even smaller spools (300 gram spools from Rosa3D or DevilDesign) didn't fit at all, since one side of the spools sits in the middle, which has different geometry preventing it from spinning freely. So, overall, a nice design, but unfortunatelly not universal and robust enough to my liking. (edited)

Just printed materials for my first base! Did you attach this to the bottom of the bin in any way? Also, how did you go about attaching the silica box clip to the lid of the box?

Also, do you happen to know what size drill bit you used for the top holes (for silica box) and for the front holes (PTFE holders)? (edited)

@Yenkins_2087662 The plugs are for closing up the bottom port when you are actively using the top port to feed filament into the printer. The theory being that the more you keep the container air-tight, the longer you can go without having to recharge the silica. The reason there are two was just in case you lose one.

@NGC6543_1747290 Okay thanks, so for future boxes I can just do the top PTFE conduit if I don't want a spare on the bottom (since I can't really take the plug from the bottom if I lose the top one, because then the bottom one would have an open hole)?

Its possible to save even more with V2, i cut off the the complete front. The Spool is pushing the end part to the back of the box.
Unfortunatelly the gaps are too big for my silica gel.

@thorsi_1830124 If you don’t care about having the hygrometer, that’s a good edit.

Interesting that your silica is that small. I haven’t had any issues with any leaking out of the dozen I’ve built.

Thanks for the comment and rating.

You forgot to upload the cover for the dessicant space in the base!

@MattiaFiorini_218184 Son of a gun! So I did. Uploaded now. Also uploaded a new version of the base that saves on filament and ball bearings.

Thanks for catching that, as well as the Make and the Rating! (edited)

Those containers don't have their width specified in the Amazon listing, can you tell me what the width is at the bottom?

@sprior Bottom - OD is 75mm, ID is 70mm, with a 45 degree chamfer on the ends down to 50mm
