2025-01-09: Complete redesign with improved fit and increased stiffness

Design intent

  • close off gridfinity bins from dust
  • allow stacking of gridfinity bins on top
  • low filament use
  • partially transparent when printed with transparent filament
  • light interference fit

Overview

While Gridfinity encourages open bins, I have several project boxes that collect materials for a project which I want to put away on a shelf while not in work, and a lid is helpful for stacking different sized boxes, as well as adding some stiffness to the large gridfinity lite boxes I've been printing.

There are some other stackable bin lids available but all that I've found seem to use an excess of material and are hard to make relatively transparent.

The source currently does not include magnet/screw holes, as I don't use them and didn't want them on lids.

Fit will be dependent on your print settings/calibration.

Based on Zack Freedman's Gridfinity system.

Parametric model

To modify the size of the grid in Fusion 360, change the parameters under Modify > Change Parameters.

To change bin size - use parameters: slotsDeep, slotsWide. You will likely need to rerun Extrude20 operation after changing these parameters (this sometimes goes yellow in the timeline).

Print settings

Printed at 0.2mm layer height in generic transparent PLA. Transparent PETG would probably be clearer but I don't have any handy. Infill should be in one direction only for improved transparency (Aligned Rectilinear).
