This tool is used to press the seal into the housing. The issue with the seal is that both the inner seal on the waterpump shaft and the outer seal, which seals against the housing, have to be pressed into the housing without stressing the bearing. This is done by having two surfaces that are offset from each other. When the seal is pressed into the housing, a small portion of the seal will remain above the base and when the impeller is attached and properly torqued (25nm), the seal will be seated against the impeller. Use waterpump sealant on both the inner shaft surface and the top of the seal where it catches the body to keep coolant from seeping past and out the weep hole. This is a very delicate operation and must be done carefully as the seal is made from rubber, plastic and ceramic. Any undo stress on the bearing during installation will crack it, rendering it ineffective.

To remove the bearing from the waterpump requires about 1,250 pounds pressure. The seal, about 750 lbs. To install the bearing requires about 1,000 lbs., and the seal a bit less. This job REQUIRES A PRESS of at least 2 tons.

I wrote an article on how I rebuild my Ferrari waterpump here: https://www.ferrari360.org/2023/09/ferrari-355-360-550-575-612-rebuild.html
