Segway Ninebot Max G2 Adapter for Abus Sportflex 2504 or a bottle standard holder

The Segway Ninebot Max G2 eScooter lacks threads to mount a bottle holder or a small lock. This adapter fixes that.

I needed a light and quick to apply lock for my new Ninebot Max G2 eScooter. The Abus Sportflex 2504 was my choice. It’s small, light weight with a 90cm retractable cable quite long, keyless with a 4 digit code lock and mounts into the standard bottle holder threads of a bike. Problem: The Segway Ninebot Max G2 lacks those threads.  So I needed an adapter to mount this lock onto my scooter without drilling holes into the scooter (safety issues and loss of warranty).

What you may need :

2 x M5 heat threaded inserts ( Amazon link)
2 x 25mm M5 Screws (Amazon link)
2x Zip ties (the bigger ones) 300x7,6mm (Amazon link)
a strip of thin double sided adhesive tape  like the 3M 9088 (Amazon link)

1 x  Abus Sportflex 2504 (or whatever you want to mount) (Amazon link)

And a 3D Printer with PETG Filament, of course.

The adapter is printed in one piece with supports to the printbed.
Printed 0,40mm nozzle and 0,20mm layer height.

If you like, you can print the two Ninebot logo plates in two colors with MMU oder the filament-change-method for single extruder printers. The logo plates are just decoration and ad no function to the adapter. I glued them onto the main piece.

Removing the supports and clean up the base of the printed piece should be the first step you should do.

After printing the mainpiece melt in the two M5 heat thread inserts (Ruthex are the best). They should be inserted into the preformed holes until the top brass surface is flush with the adapters surface. Don’t push them to deep into the corpus because they will stick out of the backside. The holes are the exact length of the inserts.

After inserting the two threads cover the rounded base with a layer of the thin 3M 9088 double sided PET Tape. This makes mounting the adaptor and tightening the zip ties much easier and protects the surface of the scooter from getting scratched. 3M 9088 Tape can be removed without leaving marks on the surface (if you want to deinstall the adapter lateron) and the 3M 9088 is pretty strong. Take care that the upper zip tie goes straight over the upper part of the black cable seal of the scooter. The lower zip tie should go directly under the bottom edge of the alarm horns outlet.

Now you can mount whatever you like onto this baseplate with M5 screws. This may be any accessory that uses the standard bottle holder threads measurements.

I went for the Abus Sportflex 2504. This is a light weight retractable 4 digit code lock (90cm long). It’s not maximum security but good for a short stop. One feature of this lock ist that you can put a Bottle holder onto of the lock, what makes it nearly disappear. I did not do that for the moment to make this installation not too bulky.

For longer stops I use this stronger lock for higher security. It is mounted in the middle front of the steering post of the scooter.  And the Ninebot Max G has Apples „find my“ built in for even higher protection. I hope that all people that want to steal a scooter know about this. Fingers crossed.
