purpose

We developed this charging station to offer free phone charing for people on the public square next to our maker space.

Two large smart phones can be charged simultaneously laying on the top front.

Providing QC3.0 and PD even allow fastest charing time and operation of (newer) portable computers (or pinecell soldering irons ;-)

printing

  • PETG recommended. 80% infill and 3 wall layers ensure rugged construction.
  • Please be aware that the model will use nearly a full spool. either use a fresh one or have your filament runout sensor working reliably.
  • precaution: if you print on a bed slinger, it's suggested to reduce print speed towards the second half since this object is really heavy and might overload the bed axis motor, resulting in layer shift.

additional material

  • Mounting
    • 4 wall screws (6-8mm) with dowels (8-10mm), appropriate for the type of brick/construction
    • 4 sufficient stable washers (if thin ones used, double stack them), to distribute clamping force
    • (optional) to close the gap between upper base to the wall:  30cm of rubber, 2mm in diameter (e.g. thin air tube, elastic rubber, twisted duct tape)
  • Electrical part
    • Power supply 19V-24V ("Gaming Laptop style") in the 180-240W range. branded, shielded construction conforming common electrical standards and codes. (we do not recommend “open frame” type, like the ones used for 3D-printers in this application.
Place the PSU inside the house, DO NOT PUT THE MAINS VOLTAGE OUTSIDE THE HOUSE.
    • Electrical wire with at least 2,5mm² (min. AWG13) from PSU to outside, double isolated
    • 3 x fuse “inline holder", as used in cars, use 10A per socket.
    • 3 outlets  12/24V to USB-C, with (at least) QC3.0 (QuickCharge™) and(!) PD (PowerDelivery™). eg
      • ASIN B0983L4ZF8, ASIN B0983M6LY7, ASIN B08DK689RB etc
    • solder, shrink tube etc.
