I wanted some borders for my honeycomb storage wall so I could frame it but I encountered two problems. First my printer only prints 220 by 220 and the border pieces are only designed for Prusa printer bed sizes. Second the borders are thin sections that require lots of extra pieces to hold them together. Instead I redesigned the base grid in Fusion 360 and made it scalable with parameters. I made the border pieces as full size sections.
The provided STL files are for ender style bed and will fit any 220 by 220 bed but you can make them any size if you use Fusion360 by adjusting the parameters x_size and y_size. Please keep in mind that x_size must be an even number for this design.
The pieces should not be too hard to understand and put together. The main center grid is called “Base Grid 10x8”. You can print as many of these as you want for size. The corners only need two files. One for the top/left and bottom/right corners and one for the top/right and bottom/left corners. Then you just need to fill the sides with left/right and top/bottom sections. All are the same size of 10x8.
The number of left/right and top/bottom sections needed is simple. If you decide to print a center section of dimensions A by B which would be a width of A base grids and a height of B base grids than you need to print A times B base grids. 2 time B left/right sections and 2 time A top/bottom sections. The example shown in the pictures only has one center base grid so it needs 2 left/right and 2 top/bottom sections.
I didn't get a chance to do a full print of this model because I already had so many pieces of the original but I did print a few to verify dimensions and it fits well.
Have fun printing.
Feb 24th 2023 Update: I noticed that the model remixed and that I printed uses a base grid size of 8 by 7 size. I thus added a full set for this same size in case anyone else already used that model.
Mar 2nd 2023 Update: Thanks to MauledByLove I found out that I had made a mistake on the BottomLeft and TopRight design that caused an overlap between these and the middle sections. I have correct this and updated all required files including the STEP and Fusion 360 source files. Thank you for the feedback and if anyone else encounters anything else please message me and I'll be happy to correct the design.
The author remixed this model.
