This isn't really a remix, i designed this from scratch - but i did borrow heavily from the aesthetic of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5740237

I really liked the the rounded organic (bio-morphic?) design quality of the remote caddy - and i really wanted to print something for my coffee table that wasn't as boring as the one i had been using.

I have lots of designs and things that are purely minimal, made mostly of rectangles (with chamfers!), that perform a job - and do it just fine - but people who visit me are unimpressed with these things....

People just don't appreciate chamfered rectangles anymore, its too hard to impress them.

So... I wanted to print something that at least included some form in its function - and I felt that the one Wolfgang1402 captured something in the one they designed. I needed to take that a bit further - and solve some design challenges i set for myself with my own.

  1. It had to fit my remotes - the 4 larger orifices are 55mm by 28mm with one 35mm by 30mm to fit the unique form of one of them. I did include an "alt" model that has a larger 49mm x 30mm orifice in the front (if you don't have a silly triangular remote like I do)
  2. It had to appear to be a big block of print, but not actually be…as to be conservative with material use -- so its hollow with an open bottom (print it upside down).
  3. It had to be stable, so i don't knock over all the remotes every day anymore - so the base is wider, and the remotes sit all the way down into the object to keep its center of gravity low. I can also go back and fill it with a heavy material if need be.

so there you go! a stylish remote holder that solves my problems, that has a stylish aesthetic (thanks Wolfgang1402).

Now my guests will be impressed by my slightly less pragmatic design - yay!

Notes:

I printed it face down, i would rotate the top plane to the print-bed in your slicer. I did this to keep the top smooth, and to minimize support (i didn't use any).

If you print it right-side-up (as is your prerogative) you may need supports?
