I originally created this remote button bracket (https://www.printables.com/model/368573-mini-remote-button-bracket) and got a new remote to try out (https://www.ebay.com/itm/203226792970?var=503575851217) since it has an on/off switch. It still has an idle timer but you can awaken the remote again by pressing the button once, then pressing again to take the photo. Just a simple bit of custom gcode to achieve this.

Only issues I've run into are during mesh bed leveling the extruder presses against the button and triggers the iphone to take a burst photo, can very in how many photos it takes but isn't a major issue. And I did add a little bit of unpeeled VHB just to cushion the extruder head as it presses the button. And print quality does suffer a small amount with this, as well as print times being greater. The remote can easily slide in and out and sometimes likes to wiggle its way out a little bit but some tape would probably solve that problem.

Prints with supports, standing tall, flat side of the bracket against the bed.

This mod requires 2x M3x20mm bolts like these (https://amzn.to/3WcNKwn)

To install remove the 2x M3x12mm bolts from the left side of the X axis motor mount. Install bracket and replace with 2x M3x20mm bolts. Then inside prusa slicer add this gcode to the “after layer change” section:

;AFTER_LAYER_CHANGE
G1 X180 Y180 F{travel_speed*60} ;Move away from the print
G4 S0 ;Wait for move to finish
G1 X178 Y180 F{travel_speed*60} ;Move away from the button
G4 S0 ;Wait for move to finish
G4 P1200 ;Wait for 1200ms
G1 X180 Y180 F{travel_speed*60} ;Move away from the print
G4 S0 ;Wait for move to finish
G1 X178 Y180 F{travel_speed*60} ;Move away from the button
G4 S0 ;Wait for move to finish
G4 P600 ;Wait for 600ms
;[layer_z]

This will either trigger one, or two photos, depending on if the remote went to sleep or not. But two photos is better than no photos when the remote is asleep and is only pressed once to reawaken it without taking any photos. The 1200ms is what I have found to work the most consistently to ENSURE the button gets awakened and can reestablish the connection with the bluetooth/iphone.

Here is a proof of concept of the first button
