What's it for?

When you need it, simply remove the YubiKey from its sleeve, where it rests locked in place securely using a flexture-based catch and snap it back in place with a satisfying click once you're done.

Why two halves?

The model is meant to be printable without any supports and ready to be assembled right off the build plate. The two halves are designed to slide into each other, making assembly a one-step operation that culminates in a satisfying click. Plus, it gives you the ability to mix-and-match differnt colors for the top and bottom part, which looks kinda neat.

What's the catch?

Besides a consequence of my uncontrollable urge for puns, this model has a built-in flexture that acts as a catch, firmly holding onto the inserted YubiKey whilst stashed. The design utilizes the flexibility of FDM-printable polymers to allow the flexture to move just enough to release the YubiKey when needed, but grip it securely when holstered.

Tech Specs

To print these beauties, I used extrudr PETG filament at 220 degrees science with a balmy 65C bed. Good part cooling starting at layer 2 makes for the smoothest assembly. Some 10mm brim helps to keep the PETG stick to the build plate. I'm pretty sure PLA would work, too but haven't tested that, yet.
