Object Description:

This is the reinforced Version 2.X of my bag clip with automatic snap-in mechanism.

Basically it was already a solid design, but even the strongest part can be improved.

Recently my wife showed me our first broken bag clip. It was at this time printed in PLA, which was not the best desicion.
But with failed parts you can find out best the waek points and eliminate it in the next step. That's what I did.

The main dimensions and the function stay the same, but with a slightly changed design the mid-section is now reinforced.

Update 2025-01-12:
  • Link to Očko's bag clip holder added.

Update 2023-07-12:
  • Based on the results of a finite elemente analysis: V2.1 is published which has some small strength improvements compared to V2.
Update 2023-02-03:
  • I tested the new experimental feature "extra perimeters on overhangs" introduced with Prusa Slicer 2.6.0-alpha2. Basically it works, but I don't recommend it for this clip design. Even after many back and forth movements of the hinge, it does not move as smoothly as usual.
Update 2022-09-25:
  • Models for 0,3mm layer height and 0,6mm nozzle added. Hinge- and snap fit design slightly optimized for this print parameters.

Advantages:

- Stable hinge

- Almost wobble-free hinge design

- Allows one hand operation

- It clamps reliably even thin bags

- Marble pattern in the grip zone for a better finger grip

Comments:

- Print the clip on the side as suggested in the data file. There are small supports in the hinge that would not work if you turn the clip on the top side. Do not mirror it, just rotate it in the slicer.

- For a quick functional model and to check if everything works as expected you can print the 5mm testpiece first.

- After printing, the hinge must be broken loose.

- After bending back and forth several times, the hinges turn quite smooth.

- The design is made for a layer height of 0.2mm. Other layer heights have not been tested. Comments about successful or unsuccessful prints in other layer heights are welcome and will be added to the object description later.

- In the meantime I tested with a 0,6mm nozzle at 0,2mm layer height. It works fine for me. But you have to ensure, that “detect thin walls” is enabled in your print settings! Otherwise the support lines for the hinge will not be printed.

- The offered lengths should be sufficient for most users. If there is a need for other lengths, please leave me a comment.

And here you find a nice bag clip holder from Očko: Link
