Early Warning Smart Filament Runout Sensor and PTFE Tube Mount- Type DS

A bit dissatisfied with the stock filament sensor (and its associated workflow) I wanted to find a way to be notified of a spool finishing so that I can do a filament change.

Problem:

1. The stock filament unload is unreliable
2. You might run out on an external perimeter causing an imperfection in the print
3. Your filament might run out and you not know
4. If you are aware you are running out soon then you have to check on your printer every few min to check how much you have left.

Benefits:

1. Smarthome/Alexa integration provides voice and phone notification
2. You don't have to visually monitor the printer or reel
3. Filament change how you choose, without reliance on the stock mechanism
4. PTFE tube mount/holder 

Additional Required Parts:

1. Smart Home Door Sensor (Designed with this version in mind. Others may work)
2. Compatible ZigBee smarthome hub. Some of the Echo devices that support Zigbee are:
   • The 3rd Generation Echo Plus
   • Echo Show 10
   • Full-size 4th generation Echo devices (but not the Echo Dot 4th gen)
   • Echo Studio
   • 2nd Generation Echo Plus
   • 2nd Generation full-size Echo Show
3. PC4-M10 PTFE Passthrough Adaptor
4. Spring from a pen, approx 20mm long (mine was “borrowed” from a Pilot gel pen)
5. M3 x 18mm screw with Nylock nut
6. PTFE Tubing
