Need a friend who can watch over your prints and give you a sense of unwarranted calmness? Someone to repair your spaceship after you've taken one too many laser blasts to the rear? R2D2 is your guy - and now he can dock with the Prusa Mini!

This is a printable motor visualizer for the Prusa Mini Z-axis for you to enjoy! I have split the model into different parts for printability, so some glue is needed for assembly.

Parts needed:
  • 1x Base
  • 1x R2 Body
  • 1x R2 Head
  • 1x Shaft
  • 1x Neodymium magnet (8x3 mm)
  • Hot glue
  • Super glue
Assembly Instructions:
  • Print the parts with the gcode provided or slice the STL files yourself. I recommend printing head and body in white, the other parts can be whatever color you prefer.
  • Hot glue the shaft to the R2 Head. Then attach the magnet to the bottom of the shaft. Super glue might be needed.
  • Press fit the R2 Body to the Base or glue them together if you prefer.
  • Place the body-base combo on top of your Z-axis motor and drop in the Head-shaft-magnet combo.
Optional decoration:
  • Paint the R2 head to make it more iconic. Your imagination sets the limit!

V2 (under construction)

There are some details I wish to change for it to be even more satisfying. I will upload a V2 in the future with the following updates:

  • Updated shaft and head connection that does not need glue.
  • Updated base that has cutout for Z-axis motor cables and more seamlessly fits on top of the stepper motor from a visual standpoint.
