Need a friend who can watch over your prints and give you a sense of unwarranted calmness? Someone to repair your spaceship after you've taken one too many laser blasts to the rear? R2D2 is your guy - and now he can dock with the Prusa Mini!
This is a printable motor visualizer for the Prusa Mini Z-axis for you to enjoy! I have split the model into different parts for printability, so some glue is needed for assembly.
Parts needed:
- 1x Base
- 1x R2 Body
- 1x R2 Head
- 1x Shaft
- 1x Neodymium magnet (8x3 mm)
- Hot glue
- Super glue
Assembly Instructions:
- Print the parts with the gcode provided or slice the STL files yourself. I recommend printing head and body in white, the other parts can be whatever color you prefer.
- Hot glue the shaft to the R2 Head. Then attach the magnet to the bottom of the shaft. Super glue might be needed.
- Press fit the R2 Body to the Base or glue them together if you prefer.
- Place the body-base combo on top of your Z-axis motor and drop in the Head-shaft-magnet combo.
Optional decoration:
- Paint the R2 head to make it more iconic. Your imagination sets the limit!
V2 (under construction)
There are some details I wish to change for it to be even more satisfying. I will upload a V2 in the future with the following updates:
- Updated shaft and head connection that does not need glue.
- Updated base that has cutout for Z-axis motor cables and more seamlessly fits on top of the stepper motor from a visual standpoint.
Please leave a comment if you have any ideas or suggestions!
