UPDATE 3/18/2019

Warning: Some of the stack-able banana plugs I got on amazon have too much of a gap between the egg beater like contacts and the shaft. I imagine the knockoff engineer did this to minimize rejection rates when mass producing. When plugged in the entire assembly can easily spin (not a single bit of resistance) since the egg beater has not gripped the shaft. This means there is very poor connection.

Poor connection leads to resistance. Resistance leads to heat. Heat leads to the dark side. I found one of my power leads melted at the connection. Good thing the melted plastic pushed the fitting to one side so it made good contact again and the thermal runaway stopped so no fire. Was a PITA to remove the melted plastic from the connection. Just putting the warning out there to check the joint.

UPDATE 9/8/2017

I found the most amazing connector for this mod for those going super cheap. https://www.taydaelectronics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=stackable+banana+plug

Just leave the PSU wires long you want to tap and then solder on these connectors for instant banana cables. I also uploaded a beefier version with its FreeCAD file.

PS No affiliation with Tayda Electronics, but every thing they shipped me was well packaged and kitted.

My cheap version of a bench power supply made from an ATX power supply. Read RepRap’s instructions and warnings for converting PSU to a bench power supply. I make this style when I just need something quick to power a machine because;

1.) It’s easy

2.) It’s cheap.

I usually hide it when not in use because it looks so ugly…

Use inline fuse holders and cut banana clip lines. (Minimal cost) If you trust PSU voltage protections then you can skip the fuses. I don’t so I always fuse the powered lines. The clip acts as an insulator so you can use the back of the banana cables for male connections and/or you can just pull and unwrap the cables to attach to female banana connections. The spacing of the banana posts should work for dual banana plugs.
