This is a 3D printed inverter mod centered around integrating a 1,000 watt pure sign wave inverter into the gen-1 Chevy Volt and does so through a custom rear hatch faceplate that adds an interface for you to remotely wire-up a hidden inverter. The inverter is connected to your cars DC-DC converter, in a neat and tidy fashion. This means when the car is on, it draws power from the large EV 18 KWh battery pack, allowing you to power fridges for days, or electric burners while camping. I have printed it in Prusament PETG and it has been fine in my black gen 1 volt for the past year without any warping, even during 115 F degree days.

Assembly:

This is assembled using super glue and M3x12 bolts and M3 nuts that are slid into nut slots. I have added a PDF with assembly pictures but have had yet spent the time to write descriptions on what was going on in each photo… I hope you have fun trying to figure it out ;) For the outlets, I used these extension outlets for simplicity of install.

Inverter install:

First, taking on this project requires a good understanding of electronics and high-voltage systems, attempt at your own risk. If done right, this will not void your cars warranty (In the US) or represent any safety issues once finished and while in use. However, due to the nature of high voltage systems, an easy mistakes during the install process can lead to injury/death and/or permanent damage to your vehicle. Do your research and only undertake the install under your own risk.

I used this Renogy 1,000 W inverter for this build, and a Renogy Smart inverter remote. These are not affiliate links, just showing exactly what I used. I have added a VERY LOOSE guide PDF with photos of the inverter install, but I MUST STRESS the install process is potentially dangerous to those who do not know much about high voltage DC or AC and this guide IS NOT meant to arm you with said knowledge to know what you need to do. It is simply a reference for other makers to take a look at while they try to install their own.

It must also be noted my 2013 gen 1 volt does not have the premium sound package, so I put the inverter where the Bose Amp normally goes, if your car has the premium sound package, you will need to find a different mounting solution and location for your inverter.
