Lophosh, the Low Profile Horizontal Spool Holder! As featured in my Mcwomfa video.
Uses a single 608 bearing and no other hardware, this happily holds many commonly sized 1kg spools horizontally. This can help if you want to use certain food containers which can't support a vertically held spool, for cardboard spools where the edge gets damaged by vertical spool holders, or just personal preference!
Print one base, one frame, and one cap. I'd suggest PETG, both for the toughness and the low coefficient of friction. While the bearing holds most of the weight, the outer rim still sees some contact to stop things wobbling around. To help support this, the base has rings to help reduce the contact area. Don't have a bearing? It's worth trying without one, too!
Everything is pre-oriented for printing and needs no supports!
To help with guiding filament, there is also a fully printable filament guider that can be rotated as needed. The main base has clip points that it attaches to, so you can choose to add this later if you want.
Print one filament guider base, filament guider bearing, and one filament guider. The PETG version adds additional strength to better allow more flexible materials like PETG and ABS retain spring strength to securely stay clipped in. I've marked the original version as “PLA” for stiffer filaments, though I've not tested it! PETG or ABS would be my suggested materials for their better toughness. Otherwise, it shouldn't need glue but the guider could be glued into the bearing if needed.
The filament guider is specifically designed to mount a Mcwomfa to, but anything could be attached to it or be used without any additional bits.
