Something quick, because of course I had to make an entry for the jointed figures competition! This snap-fit model starts as a one-inch cube and flips inside out to reveal a cute, spiderlike robot.
The 3MF file has all the parts laid out in one file, or you can print individual parts as desired. You'll need one cube body, two root joints, and four each of the legs and feet. Parts are designed to print without supports, but a brim can help with adhesion on the small parts.
Recommended print settings
Material | PETG, ABS, or ASA for best results PLA is okay, but the ball joints will loosen over time. |
Layer height | 0.15mm (first layer 0.2mm) |
Infill | 10-20% rectilinear |
First layer speed | SLOW - 25% of default (at least for small parts) |
Supports | None |
Brim | As needed - small parts only A brim may interfere with the print-in-place hinges of the cube body. |
Additional settings | ✅ Print external perimeters first |
Once the parts are printed, assemble them as shown in the video below. All parts should snap-fit into place, no glue needed. This video also shows how to pack Little Cube Guy into its cube form, then transform it into spider form.
