This is a tool to help open PET-bottles. It was developed for a group school project at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

The name comes from the resemblance of the Egyptian hieroglyph, Udjat(Horus eye).

Print in two pieces for best results.

Notes: 

If you have flexible filament, print the model in two pieces. If you print in one filament hard plastic the bottle cap will probably slip.

Print either:

  • Body_opener.stl - In hard plastic
  • Insert_opener.stl - In flexible plastic
    Assemble or
  • Openeronepiece.stl - In hard plastic

Design process

Background

Many people may ask 'Why would anyone need help to open pet bottles?'.

It turns out that grip strength doesn't peak before your mid thirties. This means that the average female 20 year old has similar grip strength to that of a 80 year old male or a 55 year old female.
