Description

Our multi-slider foraging toy provides enrichment and mental stimulation for your rats, and will satisfy their natural instincts for foraging for food. With 9 pockets to hide treats in, your rats will have fun learning to move the multiple sliders to access their favourite!

This toy is a perfect introduction to enrichment toys, more sliders means it is a little easier for your rats to access the treats inside. Holes in the sliders above each pocket allow your rats to sniff out the goodies inside.

The design has been refined over a few years, and thoroughly tested by our own pet rats - they love it! We cycle a few different styles of foraging toys through their cage to keep things interesting for them, and change the contents between their regular food, treats and vegetables.

Usage

You can use our round foraging toy with your rats in so many ways:

  • To feed your rats their regular diet
  • For hiding special treats inside
  • A mix of both regular food and treats
  • Placed flat in their cage
  • Hanging from the side of the cage
  • During supervised free-roam play
  • In their cage until they've emptied it

Our round foraging toys can be hung against a wall of the cage by one of the 5 holes in the rim around the base. When hanging, only half-fill the pockets otherwise treats may fall out

Filament Recommendations

Please ensure thorough research into the filaments and other materials used to make toys for your pets. We advocate exclusively for FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) 3D printers, steering clear of SLA (Stereolithography) or resin printers due to toxicity concerns. For filament choice, PLA (Polylactic Acid) or PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) are recommended. PETG, in particular, is favoured for its robustness, reduced porosity in comparison to PLA, and resilience against common cleaning agents. Be aware that filaments other than PLA or PETG, as well as resins, might pose toxic risks or other hazards to your rats.

Recommended Print Settings

- No supports required.
- Make sure the circular rims are printed with their widest side down, as pictured.
- Print at either 0.2 or 0.25mm layer height depending on your preference.
- 3 perimeters, 4-5 top and bottom layers.
- 7% infill for the base, 15% infill for the rims and sliders.
- If you have issues with curling, add an outer brim to the sliders and rings.

Assembly Instructions

1. Using a thin Cyanoacrylate (CA glue, or Super Glue) with a small pointed nozzle, dab 6-8 drops in the circular channel around the top of the toy body. Take care to ensure the glue remains in the channel, and no excess is sitting on the top of the toy body.
2. Place the inner-ring in the channel, line up the gap in the channel.
3. Place something flat and heavy (like a large book, or a plate with a water bottle on top) on top of the inner-ring, ensure it is applying even pressure around the ring, and that the ring is pressed all the way in by the item.
4. Wait 10-20mins for the glue to cure, then wait a few hours or until you can no longer smell the glue before putting the sliders on and using the toy with your rats!

Please reach out to us if you have any issues assembling!
