Description

PDF

This print provides thinner shelves and custom mounting clips to squeeze every bit of room out of your Gnedby and achieve a total of ten Blu-Ray compatible compartments.

Six of these (the top three in each Gnedby half) have a clearance of 193mm and are tall enough for DVDs or Blu-Ray box sets as well. The other four have a clearance of 173mm and will fit standard Blu-Rays only. All of them can hold up to 14 standard-sized Blu-Rays horizontally (same as before), which brings the total capacity of one Gnedby up by 25%, from 112 to 140 discs. Cardboard slipcases work if they don't add too much size.

Shout out to TwoBlackAnts, who apparently had the same problem and came up with a different solution here: https://www.printables.com/model/943197-ikea-genby-shelf-lifting-pegs-raising-pins-for-blu/files

His solution is considerably easier to print and assemble, but doesn't seem to provide room for DVDs.

Required materials

No hardware required. Existing Gnedby pins and boards are not re-used.

Instructions

Picking parts

  • You will need eight boards and eight of each numbered clip.

Printing

  • Print clips sideways, no support necessary. Brim may be necessary for adhesion. I used NX-2 PLA with +10°C nozzle temperature (230°C, up from the usual 220°C) and +20°C bed temperature (80°C, up from 60°C) on the smooth PEI sheet, this works without brims.
  • Print boards flat. Watch out for warping.
  • PLA should be sufficient, but don't reduce infill too much.

Assembly

  • Remove all of the stock boards and pins from your Gnedby.
  • Assembly is identical for the top and bottom halves of Gnedby.
  • Insert the clips. Use Clip 1 for the lowest printed board in each half, Clip 2 for the one above that and so forth.
    • One hole stays empty below clip 1
    • Three holes stay empty between clips 1 and 2
    • Four holes stay empty between clips 2 and 3
    • Four holes stay empty between clips 3 and 4
    • Two holes stay empty above clip 4
  • Place the boards on top of the clips. The wider side has to face you, it has cutouts for the front clips.
