Wall mount to replace the original mounting options as provided by Rain gauge by DusanJ | Download free STL model | Printables.com. This L-bracket mount can be used to fixate the rain gauge directly onto a wall or other vertical surface without any modifications to the original rain gauge, and it will clear the rain gauge from the surface you are installing it on.

The bracket has a little chamfer where it clears the gauge's bucket in the hopes of mitigating water residing there (otherwise its nothing more than a design gimmick I guess).

I have made 3 variations to hopefully suite everyone's need.

  • The cable hole in the rain gauge is not accessible
  • The cable hole in the rain gauge is accessible and exits in a downward fashion (untested)
  • The cable hole in the rain gauge is accessible and exits at an angle into the middle of the L-bracket.

Printing instructions

For outdoor projects I normally use PETG. Use anything you feel comfortable with/that you can print on your printer and keep in mind that anything you place outdoors has to withstand the elements.

I have used an infill of 50% with the gyroid pattern and used 4 perimeter walls. I have used this amount of infill/perimeters because I considered the weight of the entire collection of objects to necessitate these settings to prevent (premature) failure.

The models should be printed upside down, so they won't need excessive supports (the orientation as provided in the uploaded files). You will want to enable supports on print-bed (grid) to support the little sloped edges at the top corner of the L-bracket. If I feel these sloped edges don't work out that well I will remove them from the model eventually.

Installation instructions

You might not need to use the amount of screw holes I've added, but I would suggest to use at least the top (diagonal) and bottom one. I just wanted to have this amount of freedom.

For best results, mount the L-bracket in such a fashion that the rain gauge's collection bucket top edge is above the surface you are mounting it on, otherwise some rain will not be collected by the bucket.

Changelog
