Update 7/18/2024: I got the model printed out of Onyx (a carbonfiber-nylon blend) and it came out great! The fit was perfect, and it came together perfectly. I have updated the assembly guide with pictures as well.

The XRP Platform is cool and all… but just two motors can seem kinda lacking at times, huh.

Introducing the Four Wheel Drive chassis upgrade for the XRP Platform! This upgrade gives two additional motor mounts, along with a lot more real estate to add additional sensors and addons to.

Utilizing the original rail mounting system from the original chassis, this chassis is backwards compatible with any rail mounted sensor or other attachment. This includes my other attachments for the XRP Platform, the Universal Mounting Bracket and the Orange Pi + Camera Mount, along with all of the default sensor mounts. Additionally, the chassis has double the mounting space for attachments, increasing your robot's possible capabilities.

Obviously, the four wheel drive uses four motors. What does that really mean? It means you have double the power. You can get over rougher terrain. Additionally, the chassis will be more accurate when it comes to odometry and straight lines. This is because the additional motors will help stabilize the robot, and make it harder for the robot to drift due to having double the power moving in your desired direction.

I have provided two versions, one with a blank inside, and the other with the same slot pattern as my Universal Mounting Bracket for the XRP Platform. This gives plenty of options for your XRP robot! Each chassis is printed in two parts to allow it to fit onto almost any printer! Each model has been optimized to print with few supports that are easy to remove.

Assembly Instructions:
To convert your XRP to the 4WD chassis, simply print the “4WD Base” file and either the “4WD Slots” or “4WD No Slots”, your choice. I've utilized a slot and pin design to accurately and easily assemble your chassis.

1: Apply glue to the slots

2: Press the two sides of the chassis together

3: Let the glue dry.

And that's it! Your 4WD chassis is ready for wiring, programming, and lots of fun!

Disclaimer: As of now, the XRP Platform only has four motor slots and two servo slots. So, this upgrade does use up all of your slots. However, in most cases, primarily beginner cases, this upgrade will be more of a benefit then it is a hindrance. In the future, it would be awesome to have an expansion board that allows the XRP robot to use more than four motors.

15 Percent Infill, 4 walls should be strong enough for most applications.

No Additional Hardware is Required
