The 3018 is a popular format of small desktop CNCs that are sold by diffeent brands, wich one of the better know being Genmitsu. This one comes with an X/Z-axis assembly made from stiff plastic and the nice feature of integrated limit switches.
There is an official upgrade kit by Genmitsu made from two single pieces of propriatary aluminum extrusions. They look nice and sturdy, but only fit machines with the very same positions for the linear rails. I wanted more flexibility and got one that is made from standard extrusions and machined plates with slots to mount onto the rails - these kits are availible from many different sellers (don't forget to order linear bearing blocks as well!).
Overall it is a great update over the original plastic assembly of the Genmitsu 3018 and adds a lot of rigidity, thus making the machine so much more capable compared to the stock configuration. The original limit switches don't fit though without modifiactions because they'll collide with the Z-Axis linear rails. Also the x-axis limit switches don't reach the changed lead screw mecanics.
These 3 printed parts solve these issues and don't require any further modifiations. You only require a few M3 screws and 4 quare M3 nuts. Print doesn't require any supports.
