I needed a Father's Day present and was surprised no one had made an articulated Tolkien-accurate Smaug yet, so I…did my best. Thank you to darkgref, P1lotz, and Namiiria for already knowing how to model dragons.
The head, upper lip, and tail piece need support, as does the area where the wings meet the ball joint (but not the steep overhang). The wings snap in to the sockets (be careful not to break the snaps!). The wings are also very heavy, so Smaug might not lay flat if you don't set them to the exact angle he likes.
I hope this hacky model inspires you to make an even better one.
The author remixed this model.
The head, tail, and wings come from darkgref's Smaug model, while the articulated body contains pieces of pieces from P1lotz's blue dragon. The wings joints come from Namiiria's articulated Spyro.
