This is a very old design. Please look at my other moderators for a current design

This moderator is for air gun use only! Do not attempt to mount it to any other type of gun!

Follow you local laws regarding moderators!

This moderator has a diameter of 35mm and is 152mm long. It is designed to fit an air rifle or pistol with a 1/2" UNF thread. The inside bore of the 5.5mm parts is 7mm and 6mm for the 4.5mm version.
The entire design is 3D printed but you need to add some sort of sound dampening material to the chambers. I am still experimenting with different materials but so far micro fiber cloth looks very promising (the pink cloth in the picture).

I have tested the moderator with over 1500 pellets using my Walther Rotex RM8 in 4,5mm and around 2000 pellets with my Diana Bandit in 5,5mm. You need a thread adapter to fit this moderator onto a Diana Bandit https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/89197-air-gun-diana-bandit-m10-to-unf-adapter

Pay close attention to the inside parts and end cap as there are versions for 4.5mm and 5.5mm pellets!

I recommend the following print settings

  • you need mass to dampen sound. Print with 100% infill
  • use a 0.15mm layer height for any part with threads and 0.20mm for the rest. In Prusa Slicer I use the "Quality Preset" and use variable layer height for the main tube (0.15mm for threads and 0.25 for the middle section).

print the main tube with a brim to help it stick to the bed The following parts have a 1 layer thick inside brim to help it stick to the build plate. These need to be removed before use!

Moderator Tube

  • Chamber 40mm Part A
  • Chamber 25mm Part A

Cone 10mm Print the following parts for assembly

2x Chamber 40mm Part A

  • 1x Chamber 25mm Part A
  • 3x Chamber Part B
  • 1x Cone 10mm
  • 1x End Cap

1x Moderator Tube UNF Chamber Part B needs to be glued onto Chamber Part A. Loosely wrap a soft cloth around the Chamber parts. You may also wrap one or two turns of Teflon tape around each part to close any air gap between the chambers and the main body. The Teflon tape is optional.

Assemble the moderator in the following order for best results.
40mm Chamber, 25mm Chamber, 40mm Chamber, Cone 10mm, End Cap

Please let me know if you make your own baffles/inside parts for this moderator and I'll add links to your designs.

*EDIT** Added high polygon count version of main tube
