Description

In the Lock & Key - Print in Place Lock Pack 1 you gain access to a series of fully functional 3d printed locks. There are small novel locks to secure your snacks and test your printers abilities to print these models. After you're sure your printer can print these functionally, you can graduate to the more complicated models in the set.

Test Print : The Chip Clip lock is the smallest of the locks this is a great place to start.

Easy : The soda lock is great for keeping greedy kids hands off your 2 liter soda bottles in the fridge.

Medium : The "Plasti-Lock Minimum Security" Pad lock needs you to insert the shackle printed separately into the the body of the lock. There is a small compliant mechanism in the hole that allows the shackle to enter, but makes it difficult for it to be removed again.

Hard : The Briefcase is sized to accommodate up to 3 MTG trading card game Commander decks. Has modularity for setting up sections. Prints in place closed, and is a bridging stress test with bridging exceeding 50 mm. It also has some non trivial printed in place hinges, that require reliable cooling.

All of these models can be printed on a well tuned printer, down to the ender-3.  The biggest concern is always cooling. If the part can't get cool fast enough it will fuse together and not work properly. If your cooling is struggling, lower your printing temp, or increase your print speed. My hypothesis for why faster works, is you're putting less heat into the plastic, so it can't bond to something it wasn't smashed into.

These models were designed to require very little special settings to print successfully.
It's important that your slicer sees the single strands of filament it needs to print. Turning on Arachne wall slicing may be useful.

These are ultimately plastic homemade locks, anything of substantial value you should secure with a professionally made lock, not something you 3d print.
I do not promise this will protect anything.

.2mm layer height is critical.
No Supports.
minimum 2 walls. (more walls = more strength)

For a limited time (Until August 30th 2024), included will be my first printed in place lock, the fully printed in place combination lock bank vault.
The code for this model can be set using the slicer settings. Instruction for how to set these codes are here.
