The SnailGuard

Print your own Snail Fence to secure your plants against the little beasts. It is snapped together using the Snap-Fit and can be extended how you like.

The Snail Guard consists of two parts: the corner piece and the regular wall piece. The parts are available in different wall heights (70mm, 100mm, 150mm + Feet Length (30mm)). Depending on your plant size, you can choose which you need. All the parts have the same length of feet that get stuck into the soil. The feet are 30mm tall.  The width is 50mm for the side- and corner-pieces (inner width).

The path to success:

  1. First step is to print the Test Print (See Snap-Fit Section for more info)
  2. Choose the tolerance which suits your printer the best
  3. Print your SnailGuard pieces!

The Snap-Fit:

The pieces are designed to fit togther without any glue, simply using the “snap-fit”. As I worked with as little tolerance as possible, you should print the test piece first (see printing instructions). Be aware the pieces snap together hardly the first time.

Printing Instructions

  • Print the Test Piece: Begin by printing the test piece provided. This piece will test if your printer can handle tolerances of 0.4mm or 0.8mm. Print both versions and see which fits better.

  • Verify Printer Accuracy: The design requires precise printing capabilities. If the test piece fits together properly, your printer is sufficiently calibrated for smaller tolerances.
    • If the 0.8mm test piece fits into the 0.4mm test piece, your printer can manage a 0.4mm tolerance.
    • If the 0.4mm test piece fits better into the 0.8mm test piece, your printer is better suited for a 0.8mm tolerance.
    • If neither test piece fits properly, calibrate your printer, use a different filament, or let me know in the comments and I will add a see what I can do

  • Printer Specifications: This object is designed to be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle. It has not been tested with other nozzle diameters, so performance with different nozzles cannot be guaranteed.

Filament & Settings

  • Filament: Any Sunlight, High Temperature, UV-resistant filament (i.e. PETG)
  • Filling: 15%, Gyorid
  • Walls: 3
  •
  • No support needed, print upside down (see picture)

Assembly

Since this is designed to hold together simply using the snap-fit, assembling can be a small challenge. Either you are able to snap it all together by pure force, or something like a table to press against it. But - be careful you dont want to break off the feet.
