„Cast it into the fire, destroy it!“ – „No.“
There probably isn’t a better place to throw someting into than the trusty old Mount Doom from the greatest work of cinema ever produced: The Lord Of The Rings.
For my first ever design, I took a geographical model from the real life Mount Doom from the LOTR film trilogy, the mighty Mount Ngauruhoe in New Zealand, and turned it into a dice tower! To top it all off, it has the Eye of Sauron from the flag of Mordor embossed into it.
Multi color printing to highlight the Mordor symbol is possible (at around 2.08mm and 2.28mm height), however it is not totally necessary. On my printed prototype I slightly messed up the color change, because the galaxy PLA was a bit more transparent in thin layers than I expected, so the golden layer shines through – but it’s not a failure, it’s a feature.
I recommend printing it as hollow as possible (for example with lightning infill to reduce the material needed) and to pause the print after some hours to fill the base with sand to make it heavier. It should print fine without supports and thanks to the massive base it doesn’t need any brim. Just keep your bed temperature high so it won't warp.
Depending on the size of your dice, you might be able to scale it down a bit, however I really recommend using the ruler tool in your slicer to check beforehand if your dice still pass through freely. The original size works great for my 1.5cm dice.
Cheers!
