This is a simple chinstrap cup. When combined with some 2mm cord and some plastic clips, it makes a Quest all-day wearable by taking all the weight off your face.

I made it for the Elite Strap, but it should work for any strap with a rigid back pad.

What you need:

  1. Quest headset with some form of rigid strap. I use the Elite Strap from Meta.
  2. A length of 2 mm cord. I switched to this, and it is so thin it is like it is not even there. I cut the cord long enough that it can clear the front of the headset.
  3. At least two self-adhesive clips for the back of the strap. I bought these from Amazon, but I am now using the two sizes of 3D-printed clips as shown in the photos. I am using 6, as I use two of them up high for my power cord.
  4. A cord-lock to let you easily adjust the fit. I used one of these also from Amazon. I used the spherical ones, as the flat ones with two holes were not strong enough.

I am now using the Hex version printed in TPU. I printed it flat on the bed with the default auto-supports in Prusa Slicer, and removed the supports using needle-nose pliers.

Once printed and assembled as shown, it will allow you to use your headset with the strap fairly loose and take all of the weight off the front.

Note: It works really well with the regular facial interface, but it is amazing with an open interface. I created my own.

  • 2024-06-30 - Added a Prusa Slicer 3MF that is how I printed it in TPU. Perfect print. Support pulled off with pliers.
  • 2024-07-01 - Added some clips that I printed in TPU they are softer to the touch than the store-bought ones and just need some hot-melt glue or a small piece of mounting tape. If you use them, be sure to clean them with IPA or acetone so the DS-tape will stick to them.
  • 2024-07-03 - Had issues with the DS-tape sticking well enough to the TPU to stay attached. Making the pads bigger fixed the issue. I use a large pad on each end, and then small pads on each side of the dial just as guides. I will add a photo when I get a chance.
  • 2024-11-11 - Switched to 2mm cord. More than strong enough and much lighter.
  • 2024-12-09 - Switch to these cord locks as they work better with the 2mm cord.

*The 3MF files I am including are from Prusa Slicer and have the print settings I used saved in them.
