MicroHex is a small hexapod robot that is designed to be affordable and easy to build using easy to source components. It is a great project for beginners, however, the Raspberry Pi Pico W that I use as a micro controller supports WiFi and Bluetooth so there are plenty of more advanced software development opportunities as well.
I haven't finished writing the software for it yet. Once it is finished, I plan to publish a link to it here. There is plenty of documentation for how to setup a Pi Pico so you can get started with your own software.
