While designing my guitar for Clone Hero/Yarg, I needed a tilt switch for star power.  I had a bunch of cheap mercury switches around so made a mount for two tilt switches in series.

I noticed that when the switches were pointed in the same direction they were very susceptible to accidental triggers.

  • If the switches were pointed down, they would get triggered by hard strumming
  • When they were pointed to the side they would get triggered by my swaying movements

So, I said why not put two at an angle to each other to hopefully get the best of both worlds.  So here it is, I have a two versions.

The bigger the angle, the more you will have to tilt the guitar up to trigger star power.  However the bigger the angle, the fewer accidental triggers.

Tilt Sensor Assembly

Use a zip tie to hold everything in place.

The switch should be mounted with the arms pointing at approximately 3:30 and 5 o'clock.  Adjust it to your preferences.
