a JIG inspired from the already not available JIG SV 45 from Tormek, as they replaced it by the new KJ-45 JIG, proposing a better centering of the knife and as a consequence a symetric angle of sharpening for both sides. However, offering this, the new JIG lost the ability to setup the distance as expected from the support to the knife edge. This ability represents a great benefit  if you have to sharpen few knives: you setup the distance in between support and wheel only one time for the first knife, and for the next ones you just modify the setting of the JIG to ensure the same distance support-edge as for the first knife, being sure to keep the same angle for all the knives. Made in PETG 0.2mm. On top of it you need:

  • approx. 12 cm of a M12 threaded shaft,
  • 2 M12 nuts (a long one and a regular one. I think the long one can be replaced easilly by 2 regulars ones, see the pictures,
  • 2 M6 bolts
  • 1 M6 nut
  • more difficult: a piece of metal (I was lucky to get stainless steel of 49 x 15 x 3 mm, with 2 drillings, one with m6 thread, one with a diameter of 6.5-6.7 mm distance between centers of drilling 33 mm. The piece support to make the blocking of the blade more safe, but I think without it it could be rigid enough to ensure no movement of the blade in the JIG when sharpening.
  • Nice to have but not mandatory: 2 conical springs found on Ebay at: https://www.ebay.com/itm/393276563548?var=662185248520
  • tricky was to modify the surface of the JIG in contact with the blade to ensure adherence of the blade in the JIG. My choice was to add a thin layer of glue that stay flexible after drying like bison liquid rubber or a czech glue less expensive here “Prenosel”.
  • and It Works: stable knife in the JIG, centering the blade slightly unprecise (but not more than the Tormek JIG SV 45).

Update November 2024: I modified the design of the main part, after experience of grinding this was not robust an stable enough. The new one has as different design than the original JIG, but much more robust.  the new one (JIG_SV_45_pour tige filetée_part_01-Body_new) replaces the 2 following ones: “JIG_SV_45_pour tige filetée_part_01-Body_haut” and  “JIG_SV_45_pour tige filetée_part_01-Body_bas”. Other parts remain the same.
