This is a non-destructive conversion of a Bauker/Hawksmoor grass trimmer/strimmer to use Makita LXT batteries.

This tool is an absolute bargin for £24 as a bare tool (no batter/charger) from Toolstation in the UK:

https://www.toolstation.com/hawksmoor-18v-25cm-cordless-grass-trimmer/p20910

The conversion is non-destructive due to use of blade connectors, but it can also be installed permantly, for a more robust solution, with some self-tapping screws.

Note that this requires addition items:

  1. Makita terminal 643852-2 or compatible (see images). These are pretty cheap (less than £5) so I dont bother to fabricate, but there are models on thingiverse if needed
  2. 2 x 2cm heavy gauge wire
  3. 4 x spade crimp connectors - bare metal or insulation removed
  4. Heatshrink insulation
  5. 4 x M3 x 8mm cap head screws
  6. 4 x M3 hex huts

Instructions:

  1. Print parts - 0.2mm layer height, 20% infill, supports required (I painted support enforcers in prusaslicer only where needed to keep the supports neat)
Flip the “bottom” part on the print bed
  2. Fabricate the wires + spade connectors as shown in images
  3. Install the wires in the tool (not that polarity is crossed)
  4. Position the 4 x M3x8 cap screws in their holes but dont screw fully through
  5. Slide the “top” part onto the tool with wires through the hole
  6. (optional) screw the top part to the tool with 4 x 25mm wood or self tapping countersunk screws
  7. Connect the makita terminal (keeping an eye on polarity)
  8. Marry up the bottom part and secure with the 4 x cap screws and 4 x nuts

Remixed from these designs on thingiverse:

Makita-Ryobi adaptor: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1811192

This solution may also be compatible with other tools from Bauker/Hawksmoor or also possibly Worx, Ferrex/Workzone and other Positec brands that share the same battery ecosystem - if you have success with other tools leave a comment!
