Our set of five kitchen knives came with a stand, but over the years it has become cracked and stained (see photos). This is my effort to design and print a replacement.
Note 1 : Unlike the original stand, my stand leaves the knife blades exposed. I feel this is a minor issue as the sharp edges of the blades are arranged towards the back of the counter.
Note 2 : This print is too large to print in one piece, so I designed it as three fit-together pieces. The tabs on the legs of the stand simply fit into the slots on the top section. The tabs are a close fit, but a small dab of glue may be useful.
Note 3 : The legs for each version are identical. In version 2 the slots for the blades are angled, and two of the slots are smaller. I prefer this version.
Print in PLA using the 3mf files provided; otherwise :
Print top section top down. I used supports on the left and right edges only. For supports I used paint-on supports with “Highlight overhang by angle” of 40 degrees.
Note : I experimented with printing the top section without supports, and there was some ugly stringing at the top curve, so supports are definitely needed. After removing the supports, I gave the area a light sanding. This part of the print could probably be improved with variable layer height.
