My Rigol DL3021 works fantastic but, as with most electronic loads, the input lacks diversity. There are times I need to test a small load and do not require heavy gauge wire to be connected to the DUT. Its a pain, at least for me, to make up a set of leads with large connectors to hook to the enormous 6mm input stud only to connect a small gauge wire to it. I tried to make some dongle type adapters but, they were always in the way. So I set out to create a more permanent solution. It allows me to connect my DVM leads, double banana plug test leads and other single test leads. I can now make up some adapters that just plug into the jacks.
The small box just slides over the input studs. I constructed a pair of wires, one for the stud extended (using 10AWG) and one for the sheathed banana jacks (16AWG silicone test lead). I connected them separate to the main input studs on the DL3021 inside the box. The box is rather compact so short ~50mm or less wires are needed. Using ring terminals, I crimped then soldered. Using 10AWG works for most of my load test needs. Anything larger would require a larger box to house the wires and it would just be too clunky. The banana jacks I used are Pamona 72930. They have the threaded studs on the end for ring terminals. You could use Pamona 5931 but, you will have to solder the wires direct to them.
You will need (4) M6 nuts and and (2) M6X20mm bolts. The lid has M6 nut profile that holds the nut proud of the surface by about 1.7mm. The M6 bolts thread through those nuts for the input knobs.
Please excuse the photo of the lid. I tried to fill the letter extrusions with fingernail polish using a syringe an the tiny needle. It works pretty well but, I have some nerve damage in both of my shoulders and it causes my hands to shake about. Anyway I hope this project is useful. Thanks for having a look. ;p
