This was first inspired by @ktothestank who made a simple wire straightener. I printed and tried it since I'm doing a lot of ethernet terminations, and decided to start from scratch and iterate 5 times on something that would have more functionality. What I ended up with is quite a bit different, but thank you for the original inspiration @ktothestank!

Parts required:

1 - M3 nut

1 - M3x8 Socket Head Cap Screw

How to terminate an ethernet cable:

1) Strip jacket using crimper tool or razor blade

2) Cut grounding conductor and center spline with razor blade

3) At the base of each twisted pair, insert a small flathead screwdriver between the pair. Push the screwdriver through until the round shaft of the screwdriver is between the pair of wires. Pull the screwdriver towards the end. This will straighten a decent portion of the wire with a single pull.

4) Using the single small hole in the center of my tool, give each wire a quick pull to get it perfectly straight as shown

5) Arrange wires in the correct order (look online for this or it might be on your crimp tool)

6) Using the end pliers of my tool, lay all the wires down into each groove and apply medium pressure. Slide the tool right up to jacket as shown so they're straight all the way up to the jacket.

6) If needed, put the wires into the slot to push them closer to each other. This isn't usually needed but can be nice to get the wires' wide to match the connector's width.

7) Cut off the very ends to the desired length so that they're the same length. Even if you're using pass-thru connectors this makes inserting the wires much easier.

8) Insert into RJ45 connector. Make sure to push the jacket fully inside of connector so it gets pinched for strain relief. If it's a pass-thru connector (highly recommended!), double check the wire order that has come out the front to make sure no wires swapped places. If needed you can pull the wires through the connector using my tool as shown.

9) Crimp using a crimp tool and observe your perfect termination!
