I wanted a temporary way to hang my Christmas stockings from my fireplace mantle and designed this! My mantle stretches out quite far and so this hook wraps around and ensures the weight of the stocking & its contents is not going to cause it to tip and fall off.
Please see the measurements from the photos. My mantle has a half-round of approximately 40mm (~1.5") and extends out ~150-180mm so I've made this to accommodate.
I tried out one design that had the thickness of the hook to be about 6mm and even on 25% infill gave me a fair amount of rigidity and strength. I downsized that to 4mm and it did gain some flexibility but still felt plenty strong on 50% infill.
In terms of overall width, I print this on it's side so you can customize in your slicer. for 6mm I used 18mm width and for 4mm I used only 14mm. Both seem strong and I could put quite a bit in the stockings before they started to sag too far. If you intend to put heavy things in, opt for 6mm; increase the infill; and choose a wider measurement like 18-24mm.
Printer brand: Creality
Printer: Ender 3
Rafts: No
Supports: No
Resolution: 0.2mm
Infill: 25-50-100%
Filament brand: Inland
Filament color: White
Filament material: PLA+
Using PLA+, I found the above filament really likes a 70C bed temperature and a 215C extruder temperature. I slow down for the initial layer but run at 100% speed after that. Takes around 3h to print the two settings I've described above.
