I created a cheap and simple heat insert press using a 12mm rod from a discarded inkjet printer. The iron resting point is height adjustable, there is a bottom end stop to allow for consistent insertion depth, and the iron automatically lifts when tension is released

A rubber band is used to provide the lift tension, and the top anchor point allows easy adjustment of the resting height of the iron, there is a ‘captive’ pressure pad on the adjustment point to prevent the screw contacting the rubber band directly. The bottom end of the band is anchored to the iron holder by folding the band over itself and inserting a piece of filament in the fold

Hardware:

2 x M3 x 12mm countersunk screw

2 x M3 x 3 x 4.2mm heat inserts (press)

3 x M4 x 4 x 6mm heat inserts (tip holder)

1 x No. 64 rubber band
