Background
Earlier this year, I had the idea of designing my own event bricks to accompany my display at different fan events.
There was such an event in Oxford, and it was an opportunity to pay homage to Sanjay Mortimer, the co-founder of E3D.
These Event Bricks are modelled after the red square brand's 1×2×2 brick, and they will interlock with other Event Bricks. Of course, you could have just one brick for your decorative needs.
How to print
I use the Z-hop technique for my Event Bricks, as I haven't turned into a 🐼, nor do I have any other multicolour printer. I've printed this at 0.2mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle.
I'm assuming you're using PrusaSlicer (I'm a recent convert from Cura) from here on in.
- Import the model into your slicer of choice. If it asks you whether to import it as a single object with multiple parts, say yes.
- Rotate the entire model so the logo side is face down on the bed.
- Split the model into parts.
- [optional] Merge the logo parts into one object for easier management.
- Make sure the logo is in line with the brick's cavities.
- Under Printer Settings > Extruder > Retraction:
- set Lift Z to 0.5mm
- set Only lift Z above 0mm and below 0.6mm.

- Ensure Print Settings > Advanced > Slicing > Slicing Mode is set to Regular! (We don't want filled holes.)

- First print the logo using your filament of choice:
- hide the brick in the list of parts/objects;
- disable the skirt/brim/raft.
- Without disturbing the print, change the filament to whatever you want the brick to be printed in.
- Then print the brick:
- show the brick and hide the logo in the list of parts/objects;
- enable supports (you may have to add custom supports for the underside of the brick hole);
- enable the skirt, or [recommended] add a brim.
If all goes well, you'll have your own Event Brick that has hopefully turned out better than mine.
