UPDATE: (21/12/23)

I have totally re-modelled the hinge, which now has 2 supports on the pin side (which is the side that always seemed to snap). Hopefully this will solve all the problems. (v5) There was a (v4) but I decided it wasn't enough of a solution, which is why it jumped to the (v5) model instead.

UPDATE: (20/12/23)

There is also now a Ravioli Maker / Mould available here: https://www.printables.com/model/678674-ravioli-maker-mould-and-pastry-cutter

UPDATE: (12/12/23)

I have uploaded a newer version with better tollerance on the hinge (v3). This is for those of you who haven't got your printer dialled in properly and find the hinge snapping off because of fillament blockage to the pin hole (misshapen pin).

UPDATE: (26/11/23)

I have uploaded a newer version with a stronger hinge (v2). Thank you riethmueller for your feedback in the comments. If anyone finds any other problems, please let me know.

My wife bought a cheap thin plastic dumpling maker from China and it arrived broken. She asked me if I could make her one, so I took the broken one and measured it up.

I hade to make a few design changes as it would not be easy to print without supports and as I prefer not to use supports when able, this was the design I made.

It prints in place as a single print, but there is one drawback to this. When it has finished printing, there is a little clean-up to be made on the hinges (just cutting away a few strands of filament that may curl). After this it feels like it is one piece as the gap is so small between the 2 parts. This needs a strong push on both sides (with the hinge at the bottom) push down hard. I suggest putting the main ring on a table (avoiding the hinged part), holding it steady and pushing or knocking the outer edge hanging off the table. It will make a loud snap/crack sound as it loosens apart. This is the hardest part of the print.

It works well (unusual for me getting the dimensions/scale/engineering part right first time).

The one my wife bought had a built in pastry cutter. I have made a Dumpling pastry cutter here: https://www.printables.com/model/660195-dumpling-pastry-cutter

Use this to make a ring of pastry 75mm (2 ¾ inches) in diameter no more than 5mm (¼ inch) thick - This is probably too thick as well. 3-4mm is better, just dont make it thinner as it won't seal and may split during cooking. The actual size of the finished dumpling (and the dumpling maker ring) is 70mm - the extra 5mm width is used in the well for the filling, so the 75mm ring of pastry will end up 70mm once filled and can then be folded. I have added a picture of what it should look like above - My wife hasn't made any yet, so the photo is a representation of what it should look like. The filling is approximately 2-3 teaspoons in size (of whatever you are using) to fill the dumpling properly.
