To refracture the light of the cooler in an efficient manner, I decided to have an edgy design with many straight lines. To do so I was inspired by the hexagon design of my Cooler Master Master Box computer case covers (see picture at the end). First I also wanted to resemble the subdivision of the hexagons, but this did not balance out with regard to gap thicknesses and the corners were too sharp to print nicely without getting round.

I used the hexagon pattern also for the connection of the upper and lower part, so we get enough light into the center and enough stiffness into the structure. In the vertical, I extruded the hexagons to multiple heights, such that the pillars at the circumference let enough light through towards the pillars near the center. The six pillars at the logo refelct most light from the logo itself, to let it shine and give a nice light effect from inside and outside. The hexagons are all angeled with 20° from the six directions of the outer hexagon, to maintain this optical feature and give a nice refracturing of the incoming light of the cooler.

On the outside I did not change anything about the design, but rotating the ATMOS text and making it slightly larger, to stand out a bit more and make it better printable. The original gap sizes were msmaller than the recommended feature sizes.

I did the print with my FDM printer first but mine always had struggles with stringing. So I did the print with my SLA printer, giving it a smoother surface. Additionally I applied a bit of clear varnish to it, so the reflections will be more intense (first pictures without varnish, later pictures with varnish).

Since I do not have an ATMOS cooler, I tested the effect from the outside with an LED stripe, see video in the link:

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Thanks to Kaspers cleaning before I could start with a simpler model of the original cover. I totally rebuilt the inner part but used his model to maintain the connections and outer roundings of the original cooler to make it a fit.
