I want to design a case for a Raspberry Pi 5, with an LCD screen and keyboard. But the keyboard must be connected internally to the Raspberry, without the USB connector being visible. I also want to show the other connectors (USB, Ethernet, HDMI and USB-C) so I can use them with other devices.
I have bought a PCB board with a female USB connector (https://www.amazon.es/dp/B07YDQ6GPQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) and some pogo pins (https://www.amazon.es/Yibuy-Conectores-chapados-Forma-Resorte/dp/B07FPCPX8X/ref=sr_1_3?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=BLDH9QBNNPJK&keywords=pogo+pin&qid=1700422422&sprefix=pogo+pins%2Caps%2C119&sr=8-3) and I have designed the model that I upload here. And yes, it is working.
The Raspberry Pi's lower USB 2.0 cannot be used now (it would conflict with the keyboard).
When you place the piece under the Raspberry, be careful with the pins. They should be exactly over the bottom four solder points of the Pi's USB.
Unfortunately, the holes on the USB PCB have different distances than the Raspberry needs. So I needed to create a model that reroutes the pogo pins to convert the PCB distances to those required by Raspberry. You can see in the graph of the image of the pogos, how they tilt and do not go down completely straight.
The pogo pins model also has to match the one I used (see drawing with sizes)
You can see photos and images to get an idea.
The model is printed with a 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, in STRUCTURAL mode and with a MK4. The material used is PLA.
I have also printed some spacer rings to put between the design and the Raspberry. To make assembly easier, I glued the hoops to the model.
You will also need brass inserts. I have used size M3S (short than standard): https://www.amazon.es/ruthex-inserto-roscado-surtido-piezas/dp/B09ZHSGHXD/ref=sr_1_fkmr3_2?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=1MME4N89E8TR7&keywords=rotex%2Binsert&qid=1700471979&sprefix=rotex%2Binsert%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-2-fkmr3&th=1
