Introduction

This Shelf Pin Jig is designed to work with a self-centering drill bit (also known as a Vix bit) with a 5 mm drill diameter, such as the Festool ZB HS D5. It is ideal for creating accurate and precise pin-holes for shelves and door hinges. The jig includes pins that can either create an outer fence for exact edge distances or be removed for aligning the jig inside your project against the back wall. For projects that are longer than the jig, you can chain the jig along the outer edges using these pins. It's advisable to use a clamp to secure the jig while drilling.

Features

  1. Options: Available in 28 mm and 37 mm versions, catering to different project requirements.
  2. Compatibility: Specifically designed for 5 mm pins, this jig is compatible with a self-centering drill that has a 8 mm outer diameter.
  3. Versatility: It can be used effectively on shelves that are already assembled, adding to its practicality.
  4. Capability: The jig is equipped for chaining, making it suitable for projects that extend beyond its length.
  5. Depth Setup: Comes with a depth setup helper. It is designed to drill 11mm deep, which is suitable not only for pin-holes but also for accommodating screws in door hinges.
  6. Customization: The jig comes with an SCAD file, allowing for full customization to meet specific project needs.

Instructions

After printing, it's essential to test the fit of the pins. They should fit snugly, neither too loose nor too tight. You can slightly adjust the size of the pins if necessary; minor size variations are acceptable and won't significantly impact the jig's functionality. Although PLA works well for this model, more durable materials can be selected for greater durability. There are no special printing instructions, but setting the infill to 50% is recommended to ensure the jig is strong enough to avoid damaging the jig during clamping. Use a flat print bed if available, as a textured bed might leave imprints on the model, potentially damaging the project when clamped.
