Over-Engineered for Your Need

I spent way too much time perfecting the art of 3D-printed keyboard switch openers that:

  • Robust, lasts long and doesn't break easily
  • Modular, easy to replace prong or teeth without printing the whole thing over
  • Ergonomic + Economic, no need to be unnecessarily big or small, easy to use and handle
  • Easy Storage, with magnets or pins to close the box together akin to popular expensive switch opener
  • Universal, able to open all if not most popular MX style switch brands
  • Looks Good. Of course, it needs to look good

How To Print

  • Print the “Switch Box” as you like, facing right way up with layer settings and everything up to your liking. No support needed
  • Print the “Prongs” facing face down as in the picture, make sure to use 0.15mm or lower layer height. It's crucial to print this way to maximise part strength. No support needed
  • Feel free to adjust your x-y size compensation setting if your prong parts don't fit or are too loose.

Assembly

  • There are 2 "Switch boxes" and “prongs” parts. Dual prongs go into the Gateron type Box, single prong goes into the Kailh type Box.
  • Gateron type box is marked with a plus symbol on the bottom, Kailh type box is marked with a minus symbol on the bottom
  • One box requires 2 prongs module
  • Press-fit prong module into the box by pushing the tabs on each side
  • Install 4mm x 2mm magnets into the magnet slot. Additionally, if you don't have magnets, use the locking pin provided
  • Your switch opener is ready. To change the prongs, lift them up with a screwdriver using the pick-up slot in the prongs

Last Word

No project is ever completed, even after 10 design iterations, I'm sure you will find things to improve in this design. Any ideas or comment is appreciated

I spent waaaayy too much energy and time designing this. Hope you like it!
