Isn't it annoying when you go out to use your plug-in electric car and the plug has come out just enough that it hasn't actually been charging? I made this to snugly capture a common charger plug and allow you to screw it into a standard outlet cover plate so this doesn't happen.
I recommend using a nylon cover plate, or wood or steel, the phenolic ones are too brittle and commonly shatter when drilled.
I looked at making a more exotic design that would incorporate the outlet cover as well, but this turned out well and works nicely. There may be fire code issues with the actual cover materials as well, so I didn't want to get involved with that.
Notes:
I would assume many different materials would work. I made the base 8 layers for additional strength, but probably not necessary.
How I Designed This
FreeCAD
Went through several prototypes. This is snug, by design. I didn't want bugs getting up in there...:-)
